How Governor Yahaya Maintained His Dignity Throughout the 2025 Pilgrimage
The yearly Hajj pilgrimage presents a distinctive chance not only for spiritual contemplation but also for evaluating the leadership attributes of public officials responsible for assisting their pilgrims. In 2025, as numerous Nigerian Muslims journeyed to the holy land, the conduct of various state governors became a subject of national discourse. Among them, one name emerged prominently for commendable reasons: Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State.Hajj is a revered journey that necessitates thorough logistical and emotional preparation. From financial support to welfare and accommodation, governors are anticipated to actively ensure that their citizens have a seamless and rewarding pilgrimage experience. While many viewed it as a political platform, Governor Inuwa Yahaya regarded it as a spiritual duty and a moral obligation. One of the most revealing acts of Governor Inuwa’s genuineness was his discreet distribution of 200 Saudi Riyals as a Sallah gift to each pilgrim from Gombe State. Unlike some of his counterparts, he refrained from using this gesture as a political instrument. There were no media campaigns or publicity stunts—only the quiet compassion of a leader who aimed to enhance the Eid celebration for his people far from their homeland. The effect of those 200 Riyals was profound. It enabled pilgrims to celebrate their Eid in Mecca with dignity, providing them the means to buy personal items for themselves and their loved ones. The simplicity and subtlety with which this gesture was executed endeared him to many.Even more notably, Governor Inuwa Yahaya was the sole Nigerian governor who took prompt and decisive action in response to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) policy regarding Basic Travel Allowance (BTA). The CBN had initially required that the 500-dollar BTA be distributed through prepaid cards rather than cash, a decision that confused many pilgrims. While the majority of governors did not take any steps to contest the policy, showing little regard for its consequences, Governor Inuwa recognized the potential difficulties it could create.

June 14 Grants Amnesty to 1 335 Pro Biafra Activists Ohanaeze Informs Tinubu
The Igbo group emphasized the importance of informing President Tinubu that this moment signifies not only a new beginning for Nigeria but also a notable triumph for democracy. The leading Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has formally requested President Bola Tinubu's attention. The group urged Tinubu to seize this historic occasion of the June 12 Democracy Day celebration to extend amnesty to 1,335 reformed nonviolent Pro-Biafra agitators.Ohanaeze stated that these agitators are ready to publicly surrender and express their loyalty to the Federal Government, as well as their support for President Tinubu’s administration during the commemorative events related to the June 12 Democracy Day celebrations in 2025.The Igbo group reiterated the necessity of conveying to President Tinubu that this moment signifies not only a new beginning for Nigeria but also a significant achievement for democracy. In a joint statement released on Wednesday by the factional Deputy President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and Thompson Ohia, the spokesperson for Ohanaeze, it was noted that for the first time in 55 years since the conclusion of the Biafra war, reformed and nonviolent pro-Biafra activists are willing to engage in discussions with the Federal Government. The statement read, "Ohanaeze Ndigbo acknowledges that it has taken an extraordinary 16 months of committed effort—characterized by intense pressure, persuasive discussions, and informed advice from dedicated Igbo leadership and respected international humanitarian organizations—to encourage these reformed agitators to pursue dialogue with the Federal Government."They have committed to voluntarily pledge their loyalty in exchange for Presidential amnesty, a peaceful resolution to the ongoing insecurity in the Southeast, the dismissal of all charges against them, and the implementation of political solutions to facilitate the release of detained Igbo prisoners of conscience."The June 12 Democracy Day in 2025 offers a unique opportunity for President Tinubu to effectively address long-standing grievances and injustices that have historically plagued the region.

The bill concerning the sixth state in the South East has successfully passed its second reading in the Senate
A bill aimed at establishing a new state within the South-East geopolitical zone of the nation has successfully passed its second reading in the Senate and is currently under review by the Senate Committee on Constitutional Review.Senator Osita Izunaso, who represents Imo West, announced this development on Friday during a media briefing in Abuja, where he celebrated his two-year tenure in the National Assembly. He disclosed that the proposed state, provisionally named ANIM State, will be formed from portions of Anambra and Imo States."It is not a favor; it is a question of equity," Izunaso asserted. "Every other region in the country has six states, while the South-East has only five."We are not demanding too much, merely seeking the balance that Nigeria's federal structure necessitates," the legislator stated. At present, Nigeria's geopolitical arrangement allocates seven states to the North-West, while the North-East, North-Central, South-West, and South-South zones each possess six. The South-East stands as the sole region with five.In his remarks to the press, Izunaso expressed his enthusiasm regarding this development. The senator further remarked that it would be unjust for anyone to oppose the establishment of the proposed new state, cautioning that the South-East cannot persist as a minority in the regional hierarchy of the nation. He indicated that the formation of the proposed ANIM State will adhere to the necessary constitutional procedures, including a referendum, and will not be enforced unilaterally."A state cannot be created by decree," he emphasized. "The populace must consent through a referendum. That is the essence of democracy. However, the South-East must not continue to be structurally disadvantaged."Advocacy for Nnamdi KanuDuring his address, Izunaso also advocated for the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, who is presently undergoing trial on terrorism-related charges. The senator from Imo also took the opportunity to reiterate calls for a political resolution to his extended detention. He contended that a political solution could serve as a viable alternative to the ongoing legal proceedings.

Kudirat Abiola She stated I am not a child Do not address me in that manner You speak to me as if you are my parent Jamiu Abiola
Jamiu Abiola, the son of the late Kudirat Abiola, recently recounted a poignant memory of one of his final discussions with his mother prior to her assassination during Nigeria’s military regime. In an interview with Arise Television, Jamiu, who was a teenager residing in New York at the time, reflected on how he learned of his mother’s arrest through an article in the New York Times around 1995/1996.He expressed his shock upon seeing her photograph in the newspaper and reading that she could potentially face seven years in prison for allegedly instructing individuals to distribute anti-government posters throughout Lagos. Overcome with confusion and concern, he promptly reached out to her.“She was already back home when I called,” Jamiu recounted. “She inquired how I had found out, and I told her not to worry about that — I simply wanted to confirm if it was true.”However, Kudirat did not respond in the manner he anticipated. “She kept insisting, ‘I’m not a child, you cannot speak to me in that manner. You should address me as if you are my parent.’”The dialogue escalated into a dispute, and just a few days later, Kudirat was murdered. She was among the prominent advocates who championed democracy during Nigeria's military dictatorship.Reflecting on the past, Jamiu stated, “I always express gratitude to God because everyone will eventually pass away. At least she died for a significant cause, and her legacy endures in the memories of many.

National Honours Will Heal Agelong Historical Grievances Obasa
The conferment of national honours by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, yesterday, June 12, on some of the personalities who laboured or lost their lives as the case may be for Nigeria’s democracy to survive and thrive has been described by the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Obasa as a potent panacea for healing age-long historical grievances.Indeed, during his June 12 Democracy Day address to a joint sitting of the National Assembly in Abuja, President Tinubu announced 139 National Honours to recognise the outstanding contributions of heroes who have shaped Nigeria’s democracy. Notably, the President said, “68 of these honours were awarded posthumously, acknowledging the enduring legacy of their sacrifices. In addition, I exercised my constitutional powers to grant a presidential pardon to the ‘Ogoni Nine,’ who were also honoured with national recognition.”Some of the nationalists honoured include Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka (GCON); General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua (GCFR), late Pa. Alfred Rewane (CFR), late Chief Bola Ige (CFR), and late Kudirat Abiola, the slain wife of Chief MKO Abiola, the presumptive winner of the June 12, 1993, presidential election, regarded as the freest and fairest in Nigeria’s electoral odyssey. In a statement signed by Adeshina Oyetayo, his Special Adviser on Research, Media, and Documentation, Speaker Obasa recalled that the President started living up to his words since last year by declaring June 12 a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s Democracy Day, honouring activist Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight other Ogoni martyrs executed by the regime of General Sani Abacha for alleged murder in November 1994, and now granting them full pardon and posthumous national honours. He said, “Remembering to honour these distinguished Nigerians, some of whom sacrificed their lives for the democracy that we enjoy today, is a very patriotic, honourable, and commendable thing to do by Mr. President.“This gesture underscores Mr President’s promise last year that he would address historical grievances by fostering dialogue, reconciliation, and healing among all ethnic nationalities that make up our great nation.”Further, the Speaker described the national honours conferment as “an indubitable reminder that the labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain, and building blocks to bequeathing a great, prosperous, and united nation that posterity will be proud of.”

They Wanted to Kill Us But We Still Fought Fayemi Remembers Pro Democracy Fighters
Back in the 1990s, when Nigeria was under the rule of the military, many people risked their lives to fight for democracy. One of them was Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the former Governor of Ekiti State. In an interview with Channels Television, he shared a story that most people had never heard before. It was about the time he smuggled radio transmitters into Nigeria to help the underground station, Radio Kudirat. That station was a secret voice of resistance against the military government after Chief MKO Abiola’s election win in 1993 was cancelled.Dr. Fayemi said, “I could have been arrested on that flight and simply disappeared, like many others at the time.” He explained that he was on an Air France flight that was supposed to land in Cotonou, Benin Republic, but ended up in Lagos. He was carrying radio transmitters in his luggage. These were not just gadgets—they were tools of truth that helped people hear what was really going on, especially when the government tried to silence every voice that spoke against them.He made it clear that the people involved in this kind of struggle were not acting without thought. “It wasn’t that we were reckless or unaware of the dangers. We simply focused on doing what we believed was right,” he said. He remembered that during those times, many people were being watched. Some were killed. Some just disappeared. And yet, people like him kept going because they believed that Nigeria could be better.Fayemi said that later, when the military left power, some people came out and admitted they had been involved in plans to kill those fighting for democracy. These were real threats, not just stories. Still, the people involved didn’t stop. They believed in the cause with their whole hearts. “They weren’t foolish. They believed in the cause. Their families bore the weight of the struggle as much as those on the frontlines,” he said.He also spoke about how the actions of people during that time helped Nigeria break free from the idea that the military could solve all the country’s problems. That idea was finally broken, and it opened the door to civilian rule. Dr. Fayemi gave credit to the transitional government led by Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar. He admitted it wasn’t perfect, but he believed it was a needed step to move forward. The story Dr. Fayemi shared reminds people that Nigeria’s democracy did not come easy. It came from the courage, pain, and efforts of people who risked their lives. Their stories are not often told, but without them, the Nigeria we have today might not exist. What he did, carrying those transmitters, could have cost him his life. But it helped carry the voices of freedom to people who needed hope.

Stop Pretending Declare For Governor If You Want To Contest Kalu Tells Dep Speaker
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North Senatorial District, has insisted that the Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Benjamin Kalu, cannot be a “holder and beholderSen. Kalu, who stated this in his country home while fielding questions from newsmen on Tuesday, said if Ben Kalu wishes to run for governor, he should come out in the open and declare it.He added that he has advised his brother against contesting Benjamin Kalu.“I have asked my brother to back off. He and Ben Kalu cannot run together. So if Benjamin Kalu wants to run, let him come out and declare he wants to run for governor so we prepare to win the governorship. If he is not running, let him go back and run for his House of Representatives seat. But he cannot be a holder and a beholder; that is where I stand.”Speaking of why he was absent at the Renewed Hope Partners organised by the Deputy Speaker last weekend, Kalu dismissed any political disagreement with Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, affirming their close relationship. He, however, called for clarity on Benjamin Kalu’s political ambitions.“I am always with him in Abuja; whenever he has time, he comes to see me. I have no problems with him. “It’s just, let him say what he wants,” he echoed. On his visit to Governor Alex Otti of Abia State and the revelation from Otti that he is Kalu’s infrastructural template to develop Aba, Kalu said that during his time as governor, his target was to build Aba to use the resources to build other places and that’s what he did.“There’s nowhere in Africa that people do not know Aba and Enyimba City and that starts with securing the people. I created the Bakassi boys and they worked with the police and DSS to secure the place. This shows the people who said we didn’t do anything in the state. I laid the foundation and worked with a template to build the Aba and Umuahia, adding Ohambele.“My visit to Gov. Otti is very private. I’m the oldest governor of Abia State. I have the right to go to Governor Alex Otti. My discussion with him is about the state. I’m building 5 factories in Igbere which will take off in the next one year and before long, it will start processing so I need peace and unity in this place.“I’m APC to the core and I’ve said that I’ll pull the trigger for the party. APC should work hard to deliver the party in the state and Federal and we are committed to that.“I’m a high-ranking member of the APC. To suspend me from the party, you will have to go to the NEC. So we need to make APC win in other places. Politics is not all about carrying crowds because young men who are in politics to make money are making noise. We don’t do that. I’ve been in business for 40 years and I’ve a track record,” he said.

Peter Obi Do Better For The Next E Broadcast Jubril Gawat
Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s recent Democracy Day address stirred reactions, particularly after a sharp observation from Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s aide, Jubril Gawat, who urged him to do better for the next E-Broadcast.This comment came after Gawat noticed a mistake in the national flag displayed during Obi’s speech.Obi vehemently criticized Nigeria's democratic status during his speech, contending that the nation no longer meets the criteria for being a real democracy. He lamented that Nigeria lacks the essential elements of democracy—government of the people, by the people, and for the people—and maintained that the country's existing structure does not adhere to these values. His remarks have ignited renewed conversations about the credibility of Nigeria’s elections and governance structures.Although Obi's criticism of democracy received a lot of attention, Gawat pointed out a little mistake. Gawat criticized Obi on his official X account for misrepresenting Nigeria's flag. His post read, “Just a small correction for learning purposes: That’s not the Nigerian flag; the flag is green, white, and green. No other design or logo or even a single dot should fall into it. Do better for the next E-Broadcast.”Gawat’s comment sparked further discussions online, with many weighing in on both the substance of Obi’s speech and the significance of national symbols. The episode points out how even minor details can shape public reactions in today’s highly scrutinized political environment.

Peter Obi If It Were a Military Govt You Would ve Either Left The Country Or Been Silenced Sowunmi
According to a report from X (formerly Twitter), political tensions in Nigeria surged this week following a heated exchange between Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, and Segun Showunmi, a senior member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).Peter Obi sparked widespread discussion with a strongly worded post titled “Democracy in Decline: Reflecting on Two Years of Present Government”. In the message, he criticized the current administration for what he termed a failure to protect democratic values and a deepening of Nigeria’s economic and social challenges. Obi’s post reflected a somber tone, accusing the government of eroding democratic gains made in previous years.Segun Showunmi, however, responded with sharp condemnation, also via X. In a post that stirred both criticism and support, Showunmi berated Obi, suggesting he lacked the temperament and understanding required in democratic discourse. He accused Obi of disrespecting the sacrifices of past democratic heroes and implied that Obi’s criticisms would not be tolerated in a less free society. The exchange quickly gained traction across social media platforms, polarizing public opinion. Supporters of Obi viewed his remarks as a courageous indictment of the government’s shortcomings, while critics felt his statements were exaggerated and potentially destabilizing. Showunmi’s counterattack was praised by some for defending the integrity of democratic institutions, while others found his tone unnecessarily hostile.

PDP Will Not Gain Any Political Stature At All It will Participate But Will Not Contest Ikechukwu
In a recent assessment of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Professor Okey Ikechukwu expressed a pessimistic outlook on the party’s future in the political landscape. He indicated that while the PDP may be a subject of discussion leading up to the next election, it is unlikely to regain any significant political stature.Speaking in a video shared by ChannelsTV, Ikechukwu articulated a striking metaphor to illustrate his point, emphasizing that despite the party's participation in upcoming electoral processes, it will not genuinely contest for victory. He acknowledged the seeming contradiction in this assertion, noting that one can be involved in an event while lacking the preparation to succeed, which could lead to a thorough defeat. He firmly believes that without significant internal changes, the PDP is destined for failure. He warns that unless a dramatic reconfiguration occurs within the party, with a clear focus on modifying the optics of those who represent it, the PDP will struggle to find its footing in the political arena. Here is what he said,"You will hear of the PDP but it will not amount to any political stature at all. In the next election it will participate but it will not contest, it sounds contradictory. You're taking part in an event but your preparation is such that we know you're going to get there and get worsted beaten thoroughly and carried out on a strecther. Except a dramatic reconfiguration occurs within that party, with clear attention to the need to modify the optics of people you see in the party."

Professor Okey Ikechukwu Identifies Strategic Missteps Behind PDP s Lingering Divisions
The Executive Director of Development Specs Academy, Professor Okey Ikechukwu has offered a pointed analysis of the internal crisis rocking the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) during an interview with Channels Television on Friday, June 13, 2025.Speaking on the fallout from the party’s 2022 presidential primaries, Okey dissected the political calculations and decisions that, according to him, contributed to the division still lingering within the PDP.He recalled that during the primary election, the key contenders included Atiku Abubakar, Nyesom Wike, and Aminu Tambuwal. On the day of the primary election, Tambuwal withdrew from the race and declared support for Atiku, delivering a public speech that reinforced his endorsement. This move, Okey explained, significantly altered the outcome. However, Ikechukwu suggested that Wike was actually the front-runner before Tambuwal’s withdrawal. He pointed out that this detail is often overlooked in discussions about the current party crisis. He emphasized that the real issue began after the primary.According to him, Atiku’s decision to appoint Tambuwal as the chairman of his campaign was a critical misstep that aggravated tensions. He added that the choice appeared dismissive of Wike’s influence and standing in the party. He noted that Atiku could have chosen another figure, such as Emeka Ihedioha, who would have been a more neutral and unifying option.Okey said, "In the next election Atiku was there, Wike was there, and Tambuwal was there. Tambuwal got up and stepped down for Atiku, and also made a speech. So, with his vote and that of Atiku, they were able to beat Wike. But if you look at the votes Wike got at that primary, you will know that Wike was the one built up to take that ticket."He added, "But there is a snag there, which nobody is paying attention to, and which is part of the PDP crisis today. Number one: after getting the ticket, what did Atiku do? He made Tambuwal chairman of his campaign. What do you think Wike would be feeling? You made a man they are angry with chairman of your campaign. He could have made Emeka Ihedioha the chairman, Emeka is just like Tambuwal."

2027 PDP Is Getting Ridiculous It Will Get Beaten Thoroughly And Carried Out On A Stretcher
According to him, the house of the PDP is in so much disarray that the party does not represent a threat to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.Okey IkechukwuPublic affairs commentator and policy analyst, Professor Okey Ikechukwu, has asserted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not in a position to win the 2027 general elections due to its current state of unpreparedness.according to him, the house of the PDP is in so much disarray that the party does not represent a threat to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.Speaking on Friday during Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Professor Ikechukwu recalled the times when the PDP used to be a robust party but lamented that the party has now hit a very low point and is struggling to drag itself up.He submitted that except the PDP is able to resolve its internal crisis in time for the 2027 elections, it will suffer a massive defeat at the polls and would have to be carried out on a stretcher. The policy analyst said, “The PDP, a very robust party, a party which, during the days of (former President) Obasanjo, Audu Ogbe, and even Atiku (Abubakar) ran impressive campaigns. You had, I think, in 2003, three campaign teams. Today, it has shrunk into a whimpering collection of confounded men and women who are pretending to have a political party.“What else does the PDP do today other than talk about its quarrels? Well, occasionally, it makes press releases attacking the APC, thinking that that is political opposition.”Ikechukwu added that apart from falling from the position of a ruling party, the PDP has also failed in its role of providing credible opposition to the ruling government. He lamented that the party has not made itself attractive to either politicians or the electorate.“The whole point of opposition is that you present a profile that will make you attractive to the next person, that will make somebody say to themselves, ‘No, no, no, I need this man to replace this other guy; they don’t know what they are doing.’“Please, tell me what makes the PDP attractive today. Internally, it is in total disarray,” he added. The policy analyst urged the PDP to urgently put its house in order if it hopes to get anything meaningful from the 2027 polls.“So, in the next election, it will participate but it will not contest; it sounds contradictory.“You are taking part in an event but your preparation is such that we know that you are going to get there and get beaten thoroughly and carried out on a stretcher, except a dramatic reconfiguration occurs within that party, with clear attention to the need to modify the optics of people you see in the party,” Ikechukwu said.Professor Ikechukwu said as much as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, is a political asset to any party, the PDP should be embarrassed that the former governor is still a member, given his alleged anti-party activities. He blamed the PDP for what he termed the party’s inability to manage Wike or bring him to order, noting that such indices are only making the party more ridiculous in the political space.Ikechukwu said, “Wike, whether you like him a not, you must ask yourself: is this man a fool? The answer is no. Does he know what he is doing? Maybe. Can you disregard him? The answer is no. It is the PDP that should be embarrassed that Wike is still a member, given all that he has done and all that he’s doing.“It’s the PDP that should be embarrassed that it has not been able to manage such a man because Wike will be a political asset to anybody he works for. For those he is working for now, he is a political asset. But to allow him to bestride both lanes and be doing 160 kilometers per hour shows there is nobody controlling the traffic.“The PDP, with all due respect to the distinguished people in that party, is making itself look more ridiculous, not every day but every hour as the next hour comes. They should stop kidding themselves.”

Wike s aide to Dele Momodu Stop hustling with June 12 seek deliverance instead
Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has launched a blistering attack on Ovation Magazine publisher, Dele Momodu, accusing him of obsessively fixating on his principal and using the June 12 pro-democracy struggle for personal gain.In a statement, Olayinka mocked Momodu’s mental state, suggesting he now “sees Wike in everything he does, even in his sleep,” and requires “urgent deliverance and rehabilitation before things get out of hand.”Olayinka’s remarks were in response to Momodu’s appearance on national television on Wednesday, where he questioned Wike’s role in Nigeria’s pro-democracy history, saying: “Where was Wike during the June 12 struggle? Who knew him then? But today, he speaks as if he’s the founding father.”Firing back, Olayinka asked: “Where was Dele Momodu too when Nigeria was being founded? Was he among the founding fathers of Nigeria to be living in the country?”He dismissed Momodu’s criticism of Wike as a manifestation of “psychosis,” mocking his failed 2022 presidential bid where, he claimed, “not a single delegate voted for Dele Momodu. Was Wike responsible for that?”Olayinka went further to accuse Momodu of exploiting the June 12 struggle for personal advancement rather than any genuine commitment to democracy.“He only used the June 12 struggle to Japa. He didn’t struggle for anything other than his own well-being,” he said.Taking a swipe at Momodu’s celebrity-style journalism, Olayinka stated:“Those who genuinely struggled for June 12 didn’t use the children of the man who incarcerated MKO Abiola till his death as models in photo books. They also didn’t go around posing in the mansions of military generals for glossy magazine spreads.”Olayinka concluded by insisting that “when the register of those who truly fought for the actualization of June 12 is being taken, people like Dele Momodu, who merely used it to hustle, should stop forcing their names into it.”

There s a Very Big Difference Between Bola Tinubu and President Tinubu Guru Maharaj Ji Clarifies
According to Nigerian Tribune, Sat Guru Maharaj Ji has drawn a clear line between Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the man, and Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President of Nigeria, urging critics to respect the office he currently occupies. In his a recent message to the public, Maharaj Ji explained that while personal opinions about Tinubu may vary, the presidency must be treated with decorum. “There is a very big difference between President Bola Tinubu and Bola Tinubu,” he stated. “The former is the occupier of the highest office in Nigeria, and the latter is a private citizen.”He emphasized that individuals like Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who have been vocal in their criticisms, should recognize this distinction and engage with the officeholder respectfully.Maharaj Ji argued that critiques that fail to acknowledge the dignity of the presidency do more harm than good in a developing democracy. “If you have personal issues with Bola Tinubu, wait till he is out of office. As long as he remains President, he deserves full respect as the nation’s leader,” he said.He lauded Tinubu’s commitment to reforming the country’s economy, saying, “President Tinubu is laying down the structures for economic fairness and administrative efficiency. This is a rare seriousness among Nigeria’s ruling class.”According to Maharaj Ji, now is not the time for division but for cooperation. He called on political opponents and public figures to rally around Tinubu’s administration for the benefit of all Nigerians.“Whether it's Atiku, El-Rufai, or Pat Utomi, everyone must come together to support the President in rooting out corruption and setting Nigeria on the right track,” he noted.Maharaj Ji concluded by stressing the need for national unity, especially on Democracy Day, urging citizens to focus on progress rather than personal grievances.

One statement I have consistently made is that either Peter Obi or Atiku would be an improvement over the current administration Kenneth Okonkwo
Kenneth Okonkwo, a lawyer, political analyst, and a significant figure in Nigeria’s opposition coalition, has reiterated his strong criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, asserting that either Peter Obi or Atiku Abubakar would serve as preferable alternatives.During an interview on News Night with Arise TV, Okonkwo highlighted that the current coalition of opposition parties is dedicated to establishing a formidable front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in preparation for the 2027 general elections. However, while addressing leadership possibilities, he was quite direct:"One thing I have consistently stated is that Peter Obi or Atiku would be superior to this regime," Okonkwo remarked candidly. "This regime has glorified every previous administration. Thus, even those who faced criticism in the past now appear as saints in comparison."Okonkwo’s remarks were made in response to persistent inquiries regarding the opposition coalition’s direction, unity, and urgency—particularly in light of increasing defections, including Senator Neda Imasuen’s recent departure from the Labour Party and a growing sentiment that the coalition is lacking focus and clarity regarding a platform or candidate.Okonkwo dismissed these worries, asserting that the coalition is still in its formative stages, where discussions are ongoing but formal party selection and candidacy processes have yet to commence. "We are not even at the point of individual ambitions," he clarified. "A coalition is not a political party. It is a gathering of individuals with shared objectives."In response to the recent defection of the Akwa Ibom governor to the APC, Okonkwo questioned the governor’s political integrity. "A man who claims he desires a smooth journey in 2027 is not what politics requires," he stated. "Politics is not for those who fear storms—it is for those prepared to navigate turbulent waters toward prosperity, security, and national welfare."In his perspective, the ruling party is profiting from what he termed "the worst of the opposition," while "the best of the ruling party is...

I informed Peter Obi If you have not made a decision by May 29 I will be supporting Asiwaju Segun Sowunmi
a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former spokesperson for ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has expressed significant disappointment in Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate for 2023.In a recent interview on Arise Television, Sowunmi stated that Obi failed to seize an opportunity to establish a credible opposition in preparation for the 2027 elections. He noted that Obi’s willingness to engage in a loosely-structured political coalition has raised doubts regarding his direction and commitment to forming a strong challenge against the ruling party.Sowunmi contends that Obi, who gained considerable traction during the 2023 elections, should have leveraged that influence to collaborate with the PDP and fortify the foundation of a united opposition. Instead, he accuses Obi of gravitating towards a coalition motivated by self-interest rather than authentic political reform. The PDP stalwart cautioned that certain politicians associated with the coalition concept are more interested in capitalizing on Obi’s popularity than in establishing a viable political platform. He underscored that without definitive decisions and alignment, Obi risks becoming politically marginalized and ineffective.Sowunmi’s primary frustration stems from what he perceives as a deficiency in strategic leadership from Obi. He anticipated that the former governor of Anambra State would engage collaboratively with other opposition entities rather than pursue an independent political agenda."My greatest disappointment as we prepare for 2027 is indeed Peter," Sowunmi remarked, reflecting on what he views as a squandered opportunity to transform Nigeria’s political landscape. He also revealed a private caution he had previously shared with Obi: "I informed him many months ago that if he did not clarify his intentions by May 29 of this year, I would be more inclined to support Asiwaju." This statement is central to the headline.Sowunmi stressed that Obi had the potential to rise as a genuine national leader and a representative for the South East within a broader political framework. However, according to Sowunmi, his recent actions have undermined that potential.

2027 We ll work against any coalition with El Rufai as presidential VP candidate MBF
The Middle Belt Forum has vowed to work against any political coalition that considers former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, for the position of presidential or vice presidential candidateLuka Binniyat, national spokesman, in a statement, confirmed that El-Rufai is and remains a sworn enemy of the Forum and Southern Kaduna people, hence they would work against his plans to further occupy elected political office.“Let me reiterate again without any equivocation that the Middle Belt region of Nigeria will not be favourably disposed to supporting any candidate or coalition that pick former Kaduna governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as a running mate in the 2027 election irrespective of competence of such candidate. El-Rufai remains a sworn enemy of Southern Kaduna and Middle Belt. We can’t risk him as VP at all.”Binniyat maintained that the position of MBF on the 2027 presidential election remains firmly aligned with the understanding reached with the Southern Leadership Forum ahead of the 2023 general elections. He stated that the MBF, alongside Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Afenifere and the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) had unanimously agreed that the presidency should return to the South for two terms in the interest of equity, justice, and national cohesion.“As the umbrella socio-cultural body representing over 300 ethnic nationalities across 14 states of northern Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the MBF will consider supporting any southern presidential candidate who genuinely commits to addressing the historical marginalisation of the Middle Belt and advancing our collective interests.“We intend to enter into a clearly defined, written understanding with such a candidate, detailing mutual commitments for progress, equity, and the development of our diverse communities. This will be driven not by sentiment but by strategic interest and principles.“It must, however, be stated unequivocally that any southern candidate, regardless of how promising and honourable, who aligns with individuals or groups known to have in the past, oppressed or undermined the people and interests of the Middle Belt will automatically forfeit our support.“A major plus for any of such presidential hopefuls would be the choice of a credible Middle Belt son or daughter as a running mate. In 2023, the Middle Belt delivered millions of votes across Benue, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kogi, Niger, Kwara, Taraba, Adamawa, Southern Kaduna, Southern Kebbi, Southern Borno, Gombe, Southern Yobe, Southern Bauchi, and the FCT as bloc votes. We remain a decisive electoral bloc.“The MBF is watching the ongoing political realignments with keen interest. But our position is clear, principled, and unshakable,” he said

You Should Wear Badge Of Betrayal Not National Honor Atiku s Aide Knocks Onanuga
Special Assistant to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Public Communication, Frank Shaibu, has criticised the spokesman to President Bola Tinubu, Bayo Onanuga, for praising his principal over the national honours following his contribution to entrenching democracy and the fight for the de-annulment of the June 12 election result.Naija News reports that Shaibu, while reacting to Onanuga’s 𝕏 post, reminded him how he stood against military tyranny and spoke truth to power. However, Atiku’s aide noted that Onanuga no longer walks on the noble path of lending his voice to the people, but has decided to support a government whose actions echo the oppression he once stood against.According to Shaibu, Onanuga mocks the anguish of Nigerians, rationalises their suffering, and spins propaganda for a regime that governs with impunity.Atiku’s aide noted that Onanuga has since crossed to the other side, even though he stood in the beginning for the fight for democracy. He wrote, “Dear Bayo, You may have been part of the media resistance during the June 12 struggle—through TheNews and Tempo. You stood against military tyranny and spoke truth to power. For that, history once reserved you a seat among the defenders of democracy. But today, you no longer walk that noble path.“You now lend your voice, not to the people, but to a government whose actions echo the very oppression you once stood against. You defend policies that deepen poverty, excuse incompetence, and enable tyranny. You mock the anguish of Nigerians, rationalize their suffering, and spin propaganda for a regime that governs with impunity. That is not what June 12 was about.“So I ask: do you truly deserve to be honored as a June 12 hero?“June 12 was not just a date—it was a moral uprising. It was about the will of the people, the sacrifice of patriots, and the refusal to bow to authoritarianism. Those who deserve to wear its badge must live its values—not just during the struggle, but in the aftermath when power tempts and truth becomes inconvenient.“Can a man who now defends oppression be counted among the oppressed? Can one who rationalizes injustice be celebrated on the altar of justice?“To reward you with a CON under the banner of June 12 is to desecrate the memory of Kudirat Abiola, Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, Alfred Rewane, and the millions who yearned for a better Nigeria. You may have stood at the beginning of the fight, Bayo—but you have since crossed over to the other side.“Honor is not just about where you stood in the past; it is about where you stand when it matters most. And today, you stand not with the people but against them. You should wear a badge of betrayal, not a national honor

Sanwo Olu s Aide Exposes Peter Obi s Flag Blunder During His Democracy Day Address
Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi recently said that Nigeria can no longer be called a democratic country. In a pointed critique of Nigeria's democratic state, Peter Obi declared that the nation no longer merits the label of a democratic country. His remarks, delivered during a Democracy Day address, have sparked a flurry of responses, including a notable correction from Jubril Gawat, a senior aide to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.Obi, reflecting on the essence of democracy, stated, “Most unfortunately in our present state, our dear country Nigeria cannot be classified as a democratic country.Democracy is said to be a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. Yet, none of these three measures exist in our democracy today.”His comments highlighted perceived deficiencies in the electoral process and governance structures, reigniting debates on the health of Nigeria's democratic institutions. However, the focus shifted slightly when Gawat took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to address a visual element If Peter Obi's presentation.“Just small correction for learning purposes: That’s not the Nigerian flag, the flag is GREEN, WHITE, GREEN. No other design or logo or even a single dot should fall into it. Do better for the next E-Broadcast,” Gawat posted, drawing attention to an apparent error in the flag displayed during Obi's address. The incident underscores the sensitivity surrounding national symbols and the scrutiny public figures face, especially during significant occasions like Democracy Day.Gawat's intervention, while seemingly minor, has added a layer of complexity to the ongoing discourse about national identity and political messaging.

Olu Falae Alleges He Not Obasanjo Won The 1999 Presidential Election
According to a report by Vanguard, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and 1999 presidential candidate, Olu Falae, has claimed that he — and not Olusegun Obasanjo — was the true winner of the election that marked Nigeria’s return to democratic rule.Speaking during an interview on Arise TV’s Morning Show as part of this year’s Democracy Day events, Falae alleged that the official results declared in 1999 did not reflect the true outcome of the poll.He said his legal team had carefully examined the figures and discovered that he won by a significant margin.“I was told by my lawyer, the late Chief JOK Ajayi, that I won the election by over a million votes after a meticulous assessment of the figures declared,” Falae revealed.Despite this discovery, the elder statesman explained that his camp deliberately chose not to challenge the results in court. He said his greater concern at the time was for Nigeria to transition smoothly to democratic governance after several years of military rule.“But we decided not to go to court. We were more concerned about the country returning to democracy peacefully after years of military rule,” he stated.Falae’s recent statement has reopened old discussions about the integrity of Nigeria’s transition to democracy in 1999.Many Nigerians remember that election as a delicate arrangement aimed at pacifying the South-West region after the annulled 1993 presidential election widely believed to have been won by MKO Abiola.Following the sudden death of military ruler General Sani Abacha in 1998, General Abdulsalami Abubakar took over and promised a swift handover to civilian rule. This led to the 1999 general elections, with Obasanjo, a former military head of state, emerging as the candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).Falae, on the other hand, was the consensus candidate for both the Alliance for Democracy (AD) and the All People’s Party (APP).His support base was strong in the South-West, where many believed the region deserved to produce the next president to compensate for the injustice of 1993.While the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Obasanjo winner, Falae’s latest claim has stirred fresh debate among historians, political commentators, and ordinary Nigerians.

Knocks kudos as Tinubu honours June 12 heroes
President Bola Tinubu on Thursday attracted praises and knocks for the list of honourees he announced as democracy heroes. While some Nigerians lauded the President for his tribute to the heroes of the June 12, 1993 struggle, others lamented that key names were conspicuously omitted from the list. The late Moshood Abiola was named winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, regarded as the freest and fairest in the country, which was annulled by the military under General Ibrahim Babangida.Following the annulment, several prominent Nigerians, who spoke vociferously against the military decision, were killed, incarcerated under frivolous charges, while others went on exile for fear of being hounded. The President, in the exercise of his powers on Thursday, bestowed national honours on activists, journalists, scholars and fallen pro-democracy icons. He also granted a presidential pardon and conferred honours on the Ogoni Nine, led by Ken Saro-Wiwa, who was executed on November 10, 1995 by the military junta. The Ogoni-Nine, including Saro-Wiwa, were executed following their protest against Shell’s oil activities in the regionForty-eight hold the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, while 369 persons have been awarded the Commander of the Federal Republic honours. The President said the National Honours Committee will gazette the corrected entries before the formal investiture ceremonies later in the year.MOSOP lauds TinubuThe Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People lauded Tinubu for the bold step to appease the Ogoni people which it accused the previous administration of lacking the will to do.It, however, called on the President to remove the stain of injustice from Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight of his kinsmen, by exonerating them of murder charges.A MOSOP leader, Fegalo Nsuke, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Thursday, said the demand of the Ogoni for decades had been exoneration for the Ogoni-Nine and not pardon.“The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People wishes to express its position on the encouraging decisions of President Bola Tinubu, in announcing full pardon for the nine Ogoni rights campaigners executed by the Nigerian government during the regime of Gen Sani Abacha.“MOSOP considers the gesture, announced by His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2025 Democracy Day address, as both a historic and a positive step towards healing.“It is a widely acknowledged fact that few administrations have dared to confront this painful legacy with such candour and daring.“President Tinubu once again has distinguished himself among Nigerian leaders as one with the wisdom and courage to answer a longstanding prayer from an oppressed populace with compassion and clarity.”The group said pardon, by its very nature, implied the existence of an office, adding that in the case of the Ogoni-Nine, no legitimate crime was committed.“In the case of Ken Saro-Wiwa and his compatriots, it is clear that no legitimate crime was committed.“His Excellency, President Tinubu, himself acknowledged that their unjust execution should never have happened,” it said.MOSOP asked the President to pursue a formal exoneration of Ken Saro-Wiwa and his fellow activists.“Such an exoneration would be a stronger moral and legal correction, ensuring that their names are no longer burdened by the stain of injustice,” the statement added

Democracy PDP ADC SDP take on Tinubu on opposition comment
Leading opposition parties in the country yesterday flayed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for publicly expressing his happiness over the ongoing crisis in their folds ahead of the 2027 general elections. The president had while addressing a joint session of the National Assembly on the occasion of Democracy Day celebration yesterday in Abuja, said he is pleased that opposition parties in the country were in disarray.Tinubu said he cannot put their houses in order for them, but advised that they should examine their internal processes as part of a scheme to resolving their internal wranglings. The parties have consistently accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of being behind the crises in their folds. But the ruling party has always dismissed the allegation as false. However, President Tinubu said, “Political parties fearful of members leaving may be better served by examining their internal processes and affairs rather than fearfully conjuring up demons that do not exist.“For me, I would say try your best to put your house in order. I will not help you do so. It is, indeed, a pleasure to witness you in such disarray.”Tinubu aso said the APC cannot stop receiving defectors from opposition parties into its fold, adding that the party would be guilty of political malpractice if it shuts its doors. We would be guilty of political malpractice if we closed the door on those from other parties who now seek to join the APC and I sincerely welcome our party’s newest members from Delta and Akwa Ibom States led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Pastor Umo Eno and other members of this National Assembly,” he said.FG behind crises in opposition parties – ADC

You Are The One Who Walked Into A Clean House And Messed It Up LP Chieftain Knocks Peter Obi Blames Him For Party s Crisis
A former presidential aspirant and a chieftain of the Labour Party (LP), Faduri Oluwadare Joseph, has accused the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of being responsible for the party’s crisis.Speaking via a statement on Thursday, he accused the former Anambra governor of pointing fingers at everyone except himself. He referenced the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), which he said Obi did not build but abandoned after enjoying the party’s fortune. The LP chieftain insisted that Peter Obi was the only person responsible for the party’s crisis. He claimed that all the party’s shady deals were done to benefit Obi’s political ambition. The statement reads in part, “My attention has been drawn to numerous comments and videos where Mr. Peter Obi continues to blame everyone but himself for the deepening crisis in the Labour Party. From blaming the current president to party leadership and even external forces, Obi seems to be pointing fingers everywhere except at the man in the mirror.“This is both disappointing and disingenuous. It is laughable that a man who prides himself on competence, capacity, and production — the core vision of the Labour Party — is today a symbol of division, confusion, and underperformance.“I recently watched a video where he accused the president of being responsible for the party’s woes. In another, he blamed the party leadership. The blame game is endless.“Let us call a spade what it is: the only person to be held responsible for the Labour Party’s downward spiral is Mr. Peter Obi himself.“When Obi joined the party in 2022, Labour Party was united. The house was in order. But since his arrival, crisis has rocked the party from top to bottom. The centre could no longer hold.“This division contributed heavily to our loss in the 2023 general election. A house divided against itself cannot stand.“How can a man who claims he wants to govern a complex nation like Nigeria not even manage a small political party?“To all Obi supporters, I ask you to think critically: If Peter Obi cannot resolve party-level crises, how will he manage inter-state conflicts, economic restructuring, security turmoil, and national reconciliation?“Let us not forget, Obi did not build APGA — the platform that gave him his first opportunity. He deserted it when he should have grown it into a national party, like Nnamdi Azikiwe did with NCNC or Awolowo with UPN. Compare that to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who turned a regional party into a national powerhouse that now governs Nigeria.“Instead of strengthening APGA, Obi ran to PDP for another political meal, then moved again to Labour Party for a third helping — always looking for the easiest path, not the one requiring true leadership and sacrifice.“After the 2023 elections, instead of returning to rebuild Labour Party and unify aggrieved members, he further distanced himself from Barr. Julius Abure — the very man he used during the campaign. Now that the party is in ruins, he blames Abure for the dirt, forgetting he was the one who walked into a clean house and messed it up.“Let me be clear: I am no fan of Julius Abure, but the shady deals now under scrutiny were made for Obi’s political ambition. Leadership requires loyalty, responsibility, and the will to lead especially in difficult times.”

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Reacts after Bola Tinubu Named INEC Headquarters Named After Humphrey Nwosu
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for posthumously honouring Prof. Humphrey Nwosu, while urging that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Headquarters be named after him.Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, expressed this position while reacting to President Tinubu’s June 12 address and his conferment of a national award on the late Nwosu.According to Vanguard, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Prof. Nwosu supervised the historic June 12, 1993 presidential election, widely regarded as Nigeria’s freest and fairest election, won by Chief Moshood AbiolaDuring his Democracy Day speech on Thursday, President Tinubu conferred the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) award on Prof. Nwosu.Dr. Chukwu described the recognition as commendable, though overdue, acknowledging Nwosu’s courage and sacrifice in preserving the democratic mandate of Abiola.“We appreciate that the Federal Government has finally honoured Prof. Nwosu. However, we appeal that INEC Headquarters be named after him in recognition of his pivotal role during Nigeria’s democratic struggle under military rule,” Chukwu said.He further highlighted the ongoing economic challenges in the country, noting that inflation, rising exchange rates, and high cost of living continue to plague Nigerians.According to him, the Federal Government’s reforms have not yet eased the burden on citizens.Dr. Chukwu stressed the need for comprehensive restructuring to address both economic and security issues, citing the limited control state governors have over security apparatus. He argued that true federalism, resource control, and devolution of power would stimulate healthy competition among states and enhance national growth
