The Victims Went To Pick Tomatoes On Their Farms They Were Ambushed And All Were Killed Source
According to Punch, a recent act of violence in Plateau State's Bassa Local Government Area has resulted in the tragic deaths of four individuals, including a nine month old infant. The attack, which unfolded on Wednesday at Nkiendowro community, saw two women and one man killed, while two other people sustained injuries. The victims were reportedly transporting tomatoes from their farm in Nkiendowro, intending to sell their produce at the Farin Gada market in Jos.It was during this journey that they were ambushed by gunmen, leading to the fatal outcome.Joseph Chudu, the spokesman for the Miango Youths Development Association, confirmed the devastating incident to PUNCH Metro in Jos on Thursday."The victims went to pick tomatoes on their farms. They loaded the baskets of tomatoes in the car from the farm and when they were about to leave, they were ambushed at a bridge close to the Tegbe Nkiendowro community and then, they were all killed."This statement paints a vivid picture of the victims' last moments, highlighting the sudden and brutal nature of the assault as they were preparing to leave with their harvested produce. The incident underscores the pervasive insecurity in parts of Plateau State, where communities, particularly those engaged in farming, often become targets of armed assailants. The loss of a baby in such a violent manner further emphasizes the indiscriminate and devastating impact of these attacks on innocent lives. The confirmation from a youth development association spokesman points to the involvement of local community leaders in addressing and reporting such grave occurrences, often in the absence of immediate security interventions. This tragic event adds to a growing list of security challenges faced by residents in the region, demanding urgent and effective responses to protect lives and livelihoods.

US govt deports six Nigerians over criminal offences
Six Nigerians have been deported from the United States over various criminal offences, as part of a broader immigration crackdown by the U.S. government. The deportees arrived in Lagos on Wednesday morning via a Delta Airlines flight, which touched down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport just before 9 a.m. They were received by officials from Nigerian security and immigration agencies who are now processing them for further investigation and possible prosecution.According to reports, their removal is part of a larger plan by U.S. authorities to deport at least 3,000 Nigerians involved in different crimes across the country. This latest deportation wave follows a renewed push by the administration of former President Donald Trump—who returned to office earlier this year—to tighten immigration enforcement nationwide.Within his first 100 days in office, President Trump has revived aggressive policies aimed at identifying and removing undocumented and criminal immigrants. He has authorized arrests in sensitive locations such as schools and courthouses, and significantly increased workplace immigration raids.Speaking earlier this month, Trump’s border czar Tom Homan said workplace immigration arrests have already tripled and are expected to triple again under the administration’s expanded enforcement orders. On Monday, President Trump signed a fresh executive order directing Attorney General Pam Bondi and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to publish by May 28 a list of “sanctuary cities” that the administration says are obstructing federal deportation efforts. The order also demands that federal agencies identify and potentially suspend funding to the jurisdictions. The U.S. embassy in Nigeria has yet to issue a formal statement on the latest deportations.Meanwhile, Nigerian authorities are expected to carry out background checks on the returnees and determine appropriate legal actions, if any

According to punch newspaper, the Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 42 suspects in connection with the recent spate of killings and insecurity in various parts of the state. The State Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, made the disclosure during his first official press briefing held Wednesday night at the police officers’ mess in Makurdi, the state capital. The suspects, he said, include both armed herdsmen and local bandits who have been linked to attacks in several communities across Benue.Commissioner Emenari, who assumed duty in the state on April 26, 2025, following his posting two days earlier, stated that since his arrival, the command has intensified efforts to combat criminal activities by deploying tactical teams to crisis-prone areas. He said he undertook visits to major flashpoints including Ankpali in Apa, Naka in Gwer West, Ayilamo in Logo, Amafu in Katsina-Ala, and parts of Ukum, Agatu, Udei, and Yogbo in Guma Local Government Areas, where criminal elements had been wreaking havoc. “I discovered that farmlands had been abandoned and farmers had fled. It was clear we needed to act fast,” he said.Emenari explained that since the deployment of tactical squads to these areas, significant progress has been made, including the apprehension of 42 individuals suspected of involvement in armed attacks. “Most of these arrests were made in the past one month. They include suspected armed herdsmen and local bandits,” he noted. According to him, while some of the suspects have already been arraigned in court, others are still undergoing investigation. “About 10 of the herdsmen arrested have been remanded by the courts, and more will be charged once investigations are concluded,” he added. In terms of weapons recovery, the Commissioner revealed that two AK-47 rifles and 21 locally made firearms were seized from the arrested suspects. He described the seizure as a significant step in disarming criminal elements operating in the state. He also emphasized that the police had intensified efforts to retrieve illegal arms and curb their circulation, especially in rural areas where the majority of attacks have occurred. “These weapons are often used to terrorize law-abiding citizens and farmers. We are committed to taking them off the streets,” Emenari said.Beyond banditry and herdsmen-related violence, the Commissioner noted that the state command has also recorded progress in tackling cultism, which has been a persistent threat in urban and semi-urban areas of Benue. He said proactive strategies by the command have led to a noticeable decline in cult-related attacks over the past month. “We have taken the war to their hideouts. Our presence in known hotspots has sent a strong message that cult activities will no longer be tolerated,” he said. He further explained that preventive policing, intelligence gathering, and community cooperation have played a key role in these efforts.Emenari also spoke on the issue of kidnapping, which has affected both locals and travelers on key routes like the Makurdi–Lafia federal highway. He confirmed that several suspected kidnappers have been arrested and prosecuted in connection with recent abductions. “We are working round the clock to ensure the safety of commuters and residents,” he stated. The Commissioner appealed to citizens to support the police through timely information sharing and community vigilance, assuring that under his leadership, the command would remain firm and professional in the pursuit of peace and security throughout Benue State.

I Drank Alcohol And Cut Her Body Into Pieces Abdulrahman Bello Confesses To Dismembering Student s Corpse In Court
A harrowing courtroom revelation stunned observers at the Kwara State High Court, Ilorin, on Monday as Abdulrahman Bello, the prime suspect in the brutal murder of Hafsoh Yetunde Lawal, a final-year student of Kwara State College of Education, confessed to dismembering her body after consuming alcohol.Testifying before Justice Hannah Ajayi, Bello admitted to acting alone in mutilating Hafsoh’s corpse and absolved his four co-defendants of any involvement in the crime.“I did everything myself. I drank alcohol and then cut her body into pieces,” Bello told the court. He disclosed that he used a knife and cutlass, later recovered by police from his two-room apartment in the Olunlade area of Ilorin, to carry out the act. However, Bello denied killing Hafsoh, claiming instead that she died from an asthma attack during sexual intercourse.“She started gasping for breath during sex. I rushed out to get her inhaler, but by the time I returned, she was already dead. I left again to drink alcohol. When I returned, I cut her body into parts,” he said.During cross-examination by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Bello admitted he did not call for help, alert neighbours, or report the death to the police or hospital. When asked why, he replied simply, “I was afraid of her father.”In response to the prosecution’s line of questioning regarding possible ritual motives, Bello denied any involvement in money rituals. This followed police findings of the deceased’s body parts and blood preserved in alcohol five days after her death.“The blood and hands were not kept for rituals,” he asserted.Despite the horrifying details, Bello claimed he deeply loved the late Hafsoh and spoke emotionally about her impact on his life.“I loved her. I can’t meet anyone like her again. She cared so much about my life. She was the one who encouraged me to write the 2024 NABTEB exam and take the JAMB form. She was exceptional to me,” he told the court. On a confessional video earlier tendered by the prosecution, Bello alleged he was coerced into making a false confession by police torture.“They beat me and forced me to say that I poisoned her food and strangled her to death,” he claimed. The other four defendants, who were earlier arraigned alongside Bello, all testified that they had no knowledge of or involvement in the killing.Following the conclusion of testimonies, defence lawyers requested seven days to file their final written addresses. The prosecution sought 10 additional days to respond after receiving the defence’s submissions.Justice Hannah Ajayi granted both requests and adjourned the case to July 2, 2025, for the adoption of final addresses.

Agency, Iran’s Defense Minister, Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh, revealed that Iran successfully conducted a missile test last week, deploying a missile equipped with a two-ton warhead.Speaking to reporters following a cabinet meeting in Tehran, Nasirzadeh described the test as a significant advancement in Iran’s defense capabilities, underscoring the country’s growing military prowess.“We have made very good progress in defense affairs,” he stated, emphasizing that Iran’s operational forces are now fully equipped to meet the nation’s security needs. The missile test, which Nasirzadeh hailed as yielding excellent results, marks a notable milestone in Iran’s ongoing efforts to bolster its military arsenal. The development of a missile capable of carrying a two-ton warhead signals an increase in Iran’s capacity to project power, raising concerns among regional and global actors about the potential implications for Middle Eastern stability. While Nasirzadeh did not disclose specific details about the missile’s range or intended use, the announcement comes amid heightened tensions with Israel and ongoing scrutiny of Iran’s nuclear ambitions.Iran’s military advancements have been a focal point of international attention, particularly as the country navigates complex geopolitical dynamics. The successful test follows reports of Iran’s continued investment in missile technology, despite Western sanctions aimed at curbing its military programs.Nasirzadeh’s remarks reflect Iran’s determination to strengthen its deterrence capabilities, with the Defense Minister asserting that the nation’s forces are prepared to counter any threats.“Our operational forces are fully equipped,” he declared, signaling confidence in Iran’s readiness to respond to regional challenges.

The man, who had been serving as part of the community’s security efforts, was reportedly attempting to rescue a woman allegedly abducted and taken into the bush when he was fatally shot by the assailants. The Delta State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident on Tuesday. Shedding light on the tragic event, Edafe stated, “They said he saw a woman who was kidnapped and taken into the bush, so he took his gun to rescue her and that was how he was shot.” His statement paints a chilling picture of the events that unfolded—a lone vigilante stepping into danger in an act of bravery and community protection, only to be met with lethal force.Despite the gravity of the situation, Edafe revealed that, as of the time of his briefing, no official report of a kidnapped woman had been filed with the police. This raises further questions about the circumstances surrounding the vigilante's actions and whether the abduction he sought to intervene in was independently verified. Nevertheless, the incident underscores the perilous risks undertaken by local vigilantes and highlights the urgent need for structured coordination between community watch groups and law enforcement agencies in regions plagued by insecurity.
