Enhancing skills deployment can Quicken Nigeria's economic recovery.
The Skills Council for Building in Nigeria has emphasized that the abundant human, material, and natural resources in the country have the potential to establish it as a prominent player in the global building and construction sector.
The President of the Council, Builder Samson Opaluwah, emphasized in a statement that the sector has missed out on opportunities in the past. However, he believes that now is the time to invigorate and implement new strategies to achieve rapid development in our nation.
Opaluwah also stressed the importance of focusing on our human resources to revive the economy. He stated that Nigerians' ability to acquire skills and competencies at a global level is undeniable. By fully utilizing these skills, we can turn around the country's economic fortunes and address the issue of youth unemployment.
According to Opaluwah, Nigerians who are currently leaving the country would choose to stay if their skills were fully utilized, rather than seeking refuge in unfriendly and cold climates abroad.
He further highlighted that Nigeria, with its abundant human, material, and natural resources, is positioned by divine endowment to lead the development of the African continent. It is evident that this country has the potential to achieve continental and global success when these resources are properly tapped, harnessed, and deployed.
The Council's initiative is not meant to dwell on past missed opportunities, but rather to inspire and promote new strategies for our nation's rapid development. It is crucial for Nigeria to prioritize its human resources in order to revitalize the economy. While the country possesses immense potential in every sector, it also faces the challenge of a large youth population that is largely unskilled, underemployed, or unemployed.
By fully utilizing our skills, we have the potential to transform our country's economic situation, encouraging individuals to stay rather than seek refuge in colder, unwelcoming nations. Skills serve as a rapid solution to the issue of youth unemployment," he stated.
