Transfer: Gyokeres breaks silence on his future after Arsenal make move
Sporting Lisbon striker, Viktor Gyokeres, has spoken out about his future following Arsenal’s first offer.






The 27-year-old is the subject of interest from several top teams in Europe this summer.

After moving to Portgual’s top flight from Coventry City in 2023, Gyokeres has netted 97 times in 102 games across all competitions.


Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool are some of the Premier League clubs linked with him.

Juventus, Napoli, Atletico Madrid and Saudi side Al Hilal have all been touted as possible destinations.

Gyokeres has now spoken out about transfer speculation amid talk of tension between him and the club.


“There is a lot of talk at the moment, most of it is false.

“I will speak when the time is right,” the 27-year-old wrote on Instagram.

Buhari corrected national wrong with June 12 recognition Tinubu
He said the decision was a significant act of national healing and a bold correction of past political injustices.The President said this at a special address to a joint session of the National Assembly on Wednesday to commemorate Democracy Day.Tinubu praised Buhari for recognizing the annulled June 12, 1993, presidential election and officially acknowledging Chief M.K.O. Abiola and his running mate, Babagana Kingibe, as the legitimate winner.He said: “President Buhari made a profound choice to confront our democratic history and restore truth to the national record. By recognising June 12 as Democracy Day, he affirmed the people’s will and honoured those who fought for our freedom.”He described the moment as deeply personal and emotional, reflecting on his own role in the pro-democracy struggle that resisted military rule in the 1990s. “As I stepped into this revered chamber, I was overwhelmed by a sense of duty and gratitude,” he told lawmakers.“Our democracy, once trampled by military boots, has risen resiliently to become the cornerstone of our governance.”Tinubu said his administration would continue to protect the sacrifices made by the forefathers to ensure a stable democracy.“Since 2018, we have marked June 12 to honour those who stood against tyranny. Today, I renew my vow before God and the Nigerian people: I will do everything in my power to defend and deepen our democracy,” he said.June 12, once a date of mourning and protest, is now observed annually as a national holiday to remember the historic 1993 election.The election is widely considered the freest and fairest in Nigeria’s history, which was controversially annulled by the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida.

June 12 We need creation of Memorial Park for democracy heroes Lanre Arogundade
This demand was made by Lanre Arogundade, the Executive Director of International Press Council, IPC, the guest lecturer at a programme held to mark the 32nd Anniversary of the June 12, 1993 presidential election in Osogbo on Thursday.Arogundade also described individuals that went for the book launch of former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida as traitors to the ideal of democracy.He said, “Many Nigerians like Gani Fawehinmi, China Ubani, Beko Ransom-Kuti and others laid down their lives for democracy.“It is a great disservice to their memories for President Bola Tinubu, who himself was a partaker of the June 12 struggle and others to gather in Abuja for the book launch of General Ibrahim Babangida. We cannot forget that it was during Babangida’s regime that Nigerians heard of the world annulment.“I advocate that we create a memorial park for these heroes of democracy. The time has come for Nigerians to remember that people died for the democracy we are enjoying today,” he added.Arogundade, also called for reforms such as amendment of electoral laws that will benefit the electorates and enfranchise the population and the implementation of the Uwais committee report.“These reforms must cater for the 35 percent affirmative action for women to participate fully in government. Also the Justice Uwais report should be implemented where it would not be the winner takes it all.“Not all political parties must be present in Abuja. Room should be given for grassroots political parties. These parties would be more closer to the people rather than one being controlled all the from Abuja.”
