Peter Obi: Do Better For The Next E-Broadcast — Jubril Gawat
Peter Obi
Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s recent Democracy Day address stirred reactions, particularly after a sharp observation from Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s aide, Jubril Gawat, who urged him to do better for the next E-Broadcast.
This comment came after Gawat noticed a mistake in the national flag displayed during Obi’s speech.
Obi vehemently criticized Nigeria's democratic status during his speech, contending that the nation no longer meets the criteria for being a real democracy.
He lamented that Nigeria lacks the essential elements of democracy—government of the people, by the people, and for the people—and maintained that the country's existing structure does not adhere to these values.
His remarks have ignited renewed conversations about the credibility of Nigeria’s elections and governance structures.
Although Obi's criticism of democracy received a lot of attention, Gawat pointed out a little mistake. Gawat criticized Obi on his official X account for misrepresenting Nigeria's flag.
His post read, “Just a small correction for learning purposes: That’s not the Nigerian flag; the flag is green, white, and green. No other design or logo or even a single dot should fall into it. Do better for the next E-Broadcast.”
Gawat’s comment sparked further discussions online, with many weighing in on both the substance of Obi’s speech and the significance of national symbols.
The episode points out how even minor details can shape public reactions in today’s highly scrutinized political environment.
