The Victims Went To Pick Tomatoes On Their Farms. They Were Ambushed And All Were Killed- Source
Crime
According to Punch, a recent act of violence in Plateau State's Bassa Local Government Area has resulted in the tragic deaths of four individuals, including a nine month old infant.
The attack, which unfolded on Wednesday at Nkiendowro community, saw two women and one man killed, while two other people sustained injuries.
The victims were reportedly transporting tomatoes from their farm in Nkiendowro, intending to sell their produce at the Farin Gada market in Jos.
It was during this journey that they were ambushed by gunmen, leading to the fatal outcome.
Joseph Chudu, the spokesman for the Miango Youths Development Association, confirmed the devastating incident to PUNCH Metro in Jos on Thursday.
"The victims went to pick tomatoes on their farms. They loaded the baskets of tomatoes in the car from the farm and when they were about to leave, they were ambushed at a bridge close to the Tegbe Nkiendowro community and then, they were all killed."
This statement paints a vivid picture of the victims' last moments, highlighting the sudden and brutal nature of the assault as they were preparing to leave with their harvested produce.
The incident underscores the pervasive insecurity in parts of Plateau State, where communities, particularly those engaged in farming, often become targets of armed assailants.
The loss of a baby in such a violent manner further emphasizes the indiscriminate and devastating impact of these attacks on innocent lives.
The confirmation from a youth development association spokesman points to the involvement of local community leaders in addressing and reporting such grave occurrences, often in the absence of immediate security interventions.
This tragic event adds to a growing list of security challenges faced by residents in the region, demanding urgent and effective responses to protect lives and livelihoods.
