PSG President Takes Subtle Dig At Mbappe After Champions League Triumph: “We Were Lucky Without Him”
Kylian Mbappe
Football often delivers poetic, if not cruel, narratives and Kylian Mbappe’s Champions League journey is quickly becoming one of them.
The French superstar spent years at Paris Saint-Germain chasing European glory alongside global icons like Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr, only to fall short time and again. Ironically the moment he finally left to join Real Madrid, PSG lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy. The very prize he had long sought in Paris.
This twist of fate has sparked widespread commentary on whether Mbappe was ever the problem at PSG or simply the victim of unfortunate timing. The Ligue 1 champions appeared more cohesive and tactically fluid without him this season, prompting debate among fans and pundits.
Speaking to the media in a recent interview, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi addressed the club’s historic European triumph and how it coincided with Mbappe’s exit.
“Winning the Champions League without Mbappe? I have no regrets regarding Mbappe. He could have had this great adventure with us.”
While the remarks appeared respectful, Al-Khelaifi didn’t shy away from subtly highlighting the irony of PSG’s success.
“We were lucky this year without him, but I wish him the best for the future with Real Madrid as long as he doesn’t face Paris Saint-Germain.”
Mbappe for his part, has already begun making an impact in Spain. He won the Pichichi award in his debut season, becoming Real Madrid’s most important attacking threat. With the club bolstering its squad with new blockbuster signings and a fresh managerial era under way, the stage is set for him to potentially capture the Champions League title in white next season.
But PSG’s win without him and the president’s pointed comments serve as a reminder that football legacies are often shaped as much by timing as by talent.
