BURKINA FASO nationalizes 5 gold mines

The Burkina Faso government announced the nationalization of five gold mines, transferring their assets to the Burkina Mining Participation Company (SOPAMIB) for optimal exploitation.

The mines involved are Wahgnion Gold SA, SEMAFO Boungou SA, Ressources Ferke SARL, Gryphon Minerals Burkina Faso SARL, and Lilium Mining Services Burkina Faso SARL.
The acquisition was completed on August 24, 2024, through direct transfer of shares and corporate units from Endeavour Mining and Lilium Mining.

This move is part of Burkina Faso's policy to sovereignly appropriate mineral resources for the benefit of its population.
The decision was praised as a proud moment for Africa by Captain Ibrahim Traoré and the ministers.
