Taraba Permanent Secretary Dies In Abuja
The Permanent Secretary of Abuja Liaison Office of Taraba State Government, Mr. Dauda Maikomo has died in an hospital in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).



The late permanent secretary reportedly died after a brief illness.


Maikomo’s passage was announced in Taraba Wednesday morning by the state Head of Service, Dr. Ahmed Kara.

“On behalf of His Excellency, Dr Agbu Kefas, the Governor of Taraba State, I wish to announce the passing away of Mr Dauda Maikomo, permanent secretary of Abuja Liaison Office, whose sad event occurred on 11th June, 2025, following a brief illness,” the statement said.


Dr. Kara described the deceased permanent secretary as a dedicated public servant who made invaluable contributions to the Taraba State Government and the nation. “His leadership, vision, and commitment will be deeply missed,” he said.

The statement added that Maikomo will be given a state burial at a date to be determined by the family.

By recognising June 12 as Democracy Day, he affirmed the people’s will and honoured those who fought for our freedom.”He described the moment as deeply personal and emotional, reflecting on his own role in the pro-democracy struggle that resisted military rule in the 1990s. “As I stepped into this revered chamber, I was overwhelmed by a sense of duty and gratitude,” he told lawmakers.“Our democracy, once trampled by military boots, has risen resiliently to become the cornerstone of our governance.”Tinubu said his administration would continue to protect the sacrifices made by the forefathers to ensure a stable democracy.“Since 2018, we have marked June 12 to honour those who stood against tyranny. June 12 We need creation of Memorial Park for democracy heroes Lanre Arogundade
This demand was made by Lanre Arogundade, the Executive Director of International Press Council, IPC, the guest lecturer at a programme held to mark the 32nd Anniversary of the June 12, 1993 presidential election in Osogbo on Thursday.Arogundade also described individuals that went for the book launch of former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida as traitors to the ideal of democracy.He said, “Many Nigerians like Gani Fawehinmi, China Ubani, Beko Ransom-Kuti and others laid down their lives for democracy.“It is a great disservice to their memories for President Bola Tinubu, who himself was a partaker of the June 12 struggle and others to gather in Abuja for the book launch of General Ibrahim Babangida. We cannot forget that it was during Babangida’s regime that Nigerians heard of the world annulment.“I advocate that we create a memorial park for these heroes of democracy. The time has come for Nigerians to remember that people died for the democracy we are enjoying today,” he added.Arogundade, also called for reforms such as amendment of electoral laws that will benefit the electorates and enfranchise the population and the implementation of the Uwais committee report.“These reforms must cater for the 35 percent affirmative action for women to participate fully in government. Also the Justice Uwais report should be implemented where it would not be the winner takes it all.“Not all political parties must be present in Abuja.
